Educational Initiatives with K-12 Schools and the Public
GDI researchers volunteer in a variety of local engineering outreach programs and K-12 classrooms to share information about engineering, green design engineering, and recent research. Green Design's Economic Input-Output Life Cycle Assessment (EIOLCA) tool is available on-line for free for educational use.
Green Design Apprenticeship Program for Local High School Students
Through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU), Green Design offers a Green Design Apprenticeship for local high school students to experience the research challenges of Green Design engineers and researchers. Students meet one day per month over 6 months to learn about current research areas such as life cycle assessment, environmental impacts of energy consumption for electricity generation and transportation, water consumption, and the built environment.
