Corporate Workshops on Carbon Emissions and Life Cycle Assessment

The Green Design Institute has seen increasing interest from both existing and new business partners to share our expertise in life cycle assessment and how life cycle assessment can be used for issues related to carbon emissions.  In conjunction with the CMU Tepper School of Business Executive Education Center, we will be offering two workshops for corporate representatives focused on these two areas.  Participants can attend one or both workshops, as each is designed to be a stand-alone seminar.

The workshop on Corporate Carbon Emissions Inventories aims to answer questions about proceeding with carbon emissions inventories.  We will discuss challenges with estimating carbon emissions, including where to set the boundary for activities to include in estimates and minimizing uncertainty in estimates.  We will examine options to register and disclose carbon emissions reduction efforts, and how these connect to potential future regulations.

The workshop on Carbon Footprinting and Life Cycle Assessment for Corporate Decision-Making will provide an overview of life cycle assessment theory and methods, including introduction to software tools available for completing LCA projects.  We will provide hands-on explanation and exercises with the Economic Input-Output Life Cycle Assessment tool developed by Green Design.

Other conferences and symposium on corporate sustainability topics feature corporate executive speakers presenting what their companies have done.  Unlike those events, these Green Design workshops will offer in-depth examination of carbon emissions inventories and life cycle assessment and detailed case studies of corporate projects with lessons learned.  The intent is to provide practical insight to help business leaders strategize efforts related to assessing and marketing environmental impacts.
